Another navy man tests positive for Coronavirus as cases hit 1,631

One new case of coronavirus reported as of 9.00 pm today (31), has brought the total count of infections in the country to 1,631.

This patient has been identified as a navy person, the Ministry of Health confirmed.

Earlier today (31), 10 other individuals – one from Sri Lanka Navy and 9 returnees from overseas –were confirmed to have contracted the virus.

Accordingly, a total of 11 new COVID-19 cases have been detected so far within the day.

Meanwhile, twenty patients who had been receiving treatment for the virus were discharged from their respective hospitals today (31) as the tally of recoveries in the country reached 801.

A total of 820 active cases are under medical care at selected hospitals across the island, according to the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry.

Sri Lanka reported its 10th COVID-19 death on May 25 as a 51-year-old woman who had arrived in the country from Kuwait succumbed to the disease.
