Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya will on Tuesday fly to Australia to be assessed by specialists for a suspect bowling action, Sri Lanka Cricket today said, with the uncapped Nishan Peiris added to the home team’s squad for the third Test versus England at the SSC.
Dananjaya, who came under scrutiny when he was reported for a suspect bowling action during the first Test in Galle, played the second match at Pallekele and shone with six England wickets in the tourist’s second innings. He will now be examined at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane on November 23.
His place in Sri Lanka’s Test squad has gone to Peiris, a 21-year-old offbreak bowler with the experience of 12 first-class matches from which he has 38 wickets at an average of 29.52 and best figures of 6/67.
Peiris played both warm-up matches against England, taking 3/108 and 0/61. His wickets in the first game were of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali.
England lead the three-match series having won in Galle and Pallekele for their first Test series win in Sri Lanka since 2001. The final match starts November 22.
