Chamari Atapattu appointed captain of Sri Lanka Women

  Chamari Athapattu has been appointed as the Captain of the Sri Lanka women’s national cricket team while Udeshika Prabodhini has been named as her deputy, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said today.

“At the meeting of the Selection Committee held it was decided to appoint Ms.Chamari Athapattu as the Captain of the Sri Lanka Women’s’ National Team, and Ms. Udeshika Prabodhini as the Vice Captain of the Sri Lanka Women’s’ National Team, effective immediately,” a statement said.

Sri Lanka Cricket further said that the decisions have been approved by the Minister of Sports.

Athapattu, who has played 29 ODIs and 35 Twenty20s, takes over from Shashikala Siriwardene, who relinquished the role earlier this month after leading the team in 80 limited-overs matches since December 2005.
