Kusal Mendis scored 150 while playing against Australia in the 2nd innings of the first Test at Pallekele a short while ago.

On a pitch that hadn’t seen a player score more than 50, Kusal Mendis walked out with Sri Lanka in trouble at 2-6 and rattled off a century in just 143 balls.

Still only 21 years old, it was a coming of age performance from Mendis; his maiden Test century in only his seventh game.

Mendis has the highest score against Australia in Sri Lanka, with 157 runs to his name at the time of writing.

In fact, no Sri Lankan has ever scored more against Australia on home soil, with the record previously belonging to Asanka Gursinha for his 137 in Colombo in 1992.

Kusal Mendis fought a lone battle to give Sri Lanka a narrow lead on the third day of the first Test against Australia in Pallekele.

Sri Lanka needed someone to stand firm on the third day in Pallekele. Kusal Mendis not only stood firm, he pushed back hard against the Australians and single-handedly kept Sri Lanka alive in the Test. So solo was his performance that he even stood some chance of breaking the oldest record in cricket, the highest percentage of runs scored by a batsman in a completed innings.
