Massive cache of heroin, ‘Ice’ intercepted off Galle...

Sri Lanka Navy on Thursday (Jan.04) intercepted a multiday fishing trawler carrying more than 245kg of heroin and crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’) valued over Rs. 3,190 million, approximately 28 nautical miles (50km) in seas west of Hikkaduwa.

Upon searching the trawler, more than 189kg (including packages) of ‘Ice’ stuffed into 130 parcels and around 55kg (including packages) of heroin in 48 packages were recovered. Additionally, 06 Sri Lankan nationals aboard the fishing trawler were arrested. The seized items and the suspects were subsequently brought ashore to the Galle Harbour and were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) for onward legal action.

The suspects were identified as residents of Galle, Beruwala, Galle, Beruwala and Galgamuwa, aged between 28 to 66 years.
