Hindu devotees engage in religious activities and made pongal at a Hindu Temple in Colombo on January 14, in view of the Thai Pongal festival.

Pongal marks the start of the Tamil month Thai in mid-January and celebrates the arrival of the harvest season. It is primarily dedicated to worshiping the Lord Surya, as the Sun is believed to play a crucial role in crop growth.
