Indian businessman arrested with gold biscuits worth Rs. 30 mln at BIA

An Indian national businessman was apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Bandaranaike International Airport while attempting to smuggle over 1 kilogram of gold biscuits out of the country.

The seized gold biscuits are valued at approximately Rs. 30 million, Ada Derana reporter said.

The suspect, a 29-year-old man, had arrived in the country from Chennai on the September 06 as a business passenger and returned to the airport last evening (07) to fly back to Bangalore. 

He was arrested while waiting at the BIA immigration terminal, with the gold biscuits concealed in his trouser pocket.

It is reported that upon inspection, 09 gold biscuits, along with an additional 03 pieces of gold biscuits, weighing 1 kilogram and 158 grams in total, were found hidden in a small bag in his trouser pocket.
