The distribution of official polling cards for the upcoming presidential election is currently in progress.

Against this backdrop, the Executive Director of the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), Rohana Hettiarachchi assured that the absence of an official polling card would not hinder the voters from exercising their right to vote, if they are able to provide necessary identity documents.

“The Election Commission, in collaboration with the Postal Department, is distributing official polling cards to the registered voters. This serves as an invitation for voters to cast their ballots,” Hettiarachchi explained. “However, whether or not you receive this invitation will not prevent you from voting.”

He emphasized that the key requirements for voting are being registered on the electoral roll, knowing the assigned polling station, and presenting a valid form of identification as approved by the Election Commission.

“The official polling card includes important details like your polling station and voter number, making it easier to navigate the process. But even if you don’t receive it, voters should not be concerned. It is not a major barrier to casting your vote,” Hettiarachchi added, urging voters to remain confident about their ability to participate in the election.

Meanwhile, the official polling card distribution process, which began on September 03, is expected to continue until September 14.

The 2024 presidential election is set to be held on September 21.
