MP Rizvie Salih elected Deputy Speaker of Parliament

The National People’s Power (NPP) Colombo District Member of Parliament, Dr. Rizvie Salih has been unanimously elected as the new Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

He was nominated by Minister of Health and Media Nalinda Jayatissa, while the proposal was seconded by Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Paulraj.

Dr. Rizvie Salih, who contested the 2024 General Election from the Colombo District representing the NPP, secured the 12th highest votes in the district having polled 73,018 preference votes.

Meanwhile, Gampaha District NPP MP Hemali Weeraseekara was elected as the Deputy Chairperson of Committees.

Weeraseekara secured her seat in the Parliament as she polled 66,737 votes in the Gampaha District in the 2024 General Election.

The first sitting of the 10th Parliament of Sri Lanka commenced at 10.00 a.m. this morning (21) with the participation of the newly-elected legislators.

Meanwhile, at the commencement of the inaugural session of the tenth Parliament, NPP Gampaha District Member of Parliament Asoka Sapumal Ranwala was elected as the new Speaker of Parliament.
