Colombo Magistrate’s Court today rejected bail for the 21 university students who were arrested on October 14 under the charge of forcibly entering the Ministry of Higher Education and damaging state property.

The Chief Magistrate refusing bail stated the Magistrate court did not possess the power the grant bail and further remanded the students until November 12.

The lawyers representing the students hence submitted an petition to the Colombo High Court seeking bail. The High Court is scheduled to take up the petition on November 3.
