4 dead, over 25 injured in bus collision in Kurunegala

Four people have reportedly died and over 25 others are injured after two buses collided on the Dambulla-Kurunegala main road in the Thorayaya area of Kurunegala, in the Doratiyawa Police Division, police said.

 

The incident had occurred when a private passenger bus traveling from Kaduruwela to Colombo stopped to pick up passengers, and another private bus traveling in the same direction crashed into the back of the parked bus, police said.

 

Accordingly, the current investigation has revealed that the accident occurred due to the bus coming from behind was being driven at high speed.

 

More than 20 people injured in the accident had been taken to Kurunegala Hospital for treatment, and upon admission to the hospital three men and one woman had succumbed to injuries.

 

The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.

 

The bodies have been placed at the Kurunegala Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination and the Doratiyawa Police are conducting further investigations.
