Noticeable reduction in number of children being placed under probation this year – Authorities

There is a noticeable decrease in the number of children being placed under probation when compared to previous years, according to the Department of Probation and Child Care Services.

Assistant Commissioner Darshani Perera of the department noted that the Western Province has the highest number of child probation cases.

She made these remarks while participating in a media briefing held by the Health Promotion Bureau.

Assistant Commissioner Darshani Perera noted in comparison to previous years, there’s a reduction in the number of children being placed under probation.

At present, the department is dealing with around 9,000 children under probation care, she added.

The Assistant Commissioner said most of the child development centers are located in the Western Province which houses a higher number of children under probation.
