Three including 2 women stabbed to death in Mawanella; suspect arrested

Three persons including two women have died following a stabbing incident in the Kondeniya area of the Mawanella Police Division, police said.

Four individuals were initially admitted to the Mawanella Hospital after being attacked with a sharp weapon. 

According to police, two women and one man have later succumbed to their injuries. 

The deceased have been identified as residents of the Kondeniya area, aged 52, 57 and 66. 

A 35-year-old woman who was also injured during the attack is currently receiving treatment at the Mawanella Hospital.

Police said the suspect, a 33-year-old resident of Kondeniya, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Investigations have revealed that the stabbings took place at three separate houses in different locations within the Kondeniya area, and the suspect has been identified as a mentally unstable person during the ongoing investigation. 

The bodies have been placed at the Mawanella Hospital morgue. 

Mawanella Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
