Farmers to receive fuel for harvesting and ploughing without QR code

Farmers will be provided with 15 litres of fuel per acre for harvesting and 20 litres per acre for ploughing (land preparation) without the need for a QR code, according to the Commissioner General of the Department of Agrarian Development, Dhammika Ranatunga.

The Department of Agrarian Development has announced that fuel will be supplied to farmers outside the standard QR-based quota system. Ranatunga stated that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has granted its concurrence for this initiative.

Accordingly, farmers harvesting crops during the 2025/26 Maha season will be entitled to 15 litres of fuel per acre. In addition, 20 litres of fuel per acre will be provided to farmers for ploughing and land preparation activities for the upcoming Yala season.

The comprehensive list detailing the fuel requirements of farmers has been forwarded to the CPC starting today (16).

This list was compiled using the existing database maintained by the Department of Agrarian Development.

Ranatunga further explained that steps are being taken to forward these documents to CPC-affiliated filling stations located within the farmers’ respective residential areas.

To prevent possible irregularities during the distribution process, officers from the Department of Agrarian Development will be deployed to the filling stations.

The Commissioner General also stated that the necessary legal provisions have been made to allow fuel to be issued in containers such as cans or barrels for the convenience of farmers.

Additionally, Ranatunga noted that the provision of the fertilizer subsidy has been in effect since March 1.
