The Sagarika train, which derailed yesterday (24), has derailed once again while returning to Colombo after being restored to the tracks, the Department of Railways stated.

The derailment occurred at around 6:20 p.m. today at Kompannavidiya Railway Station, resulting in disruption to services along the coastal railway line.

As a result, train services are currently operating on a single line between Colombo Fort Railway Station and Wellawatte Railway Station.

The train derailed last morning and was subsequently re-railed before resuming its journey towards Colombo, when the second incident occurred.

Railway officials have now begun efforts to re-rail the train again.

A spokesperson for Sri Lanka Railways stated that steps are being taken to restore the affected coastal railway line within the day.
