The LLRC report has somewhat endorsed the Report on Sri Lanka compiled by the Expert Panel appointed by the UN chief Ban ki Moon, UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella said today. Addressing a press briefing he added that contrary to the government’s claim of ‘zero civilian casualty’ at the end of the war, the LLRC has attested to the fact that there were major Human Rights violations.

The Government appointed Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission itself in its report states that the Sri Lanka Police cannot be trusted, Kiriella claimed. He also adds that the report found that there were political interferences into police investigations and a pro-ruling party bias.

Though there were good policemen the political atmosphere in the country is not conducing for the police to act independently.
