A Public Health Inspector (PHI) was reportedly killed following an assault by householders during a dengue inspection carried out in the Kantale area today, police said.

The 52-year-old PHI in question had been admitted to the Kantale Hospital where he had succumbed to injuries sustained from the assault, at a residence in Thambalagamuwa today afternoon.

An argument between the home owners and the PHI regarding possible dengue mosquito breeding areas located in the residence had let to the attack, police said.

A 34-year-old male has been arrested by Kantale Police over the incident.
