Army deserter fires at cops before killing self

An army deserter who had allegedly carried out several crimes in Siripura, Aralangawila using a T56 rifle fired at police officers before turning the gun on himself, police said today.

The shooting had occurred at around 1.20pm today when officers of Siripura Police reportedly attempted to question him.

Police said that a magistrate’s inquiry has commenced and that a special investigation will be conducted regarding the incident.

However, no police officers were injured in the shooting.
