Sri Lanka’s Department of Railways has launched an investigation after two railway carriages suddenly detached from a train plying from Colombo to Palai this morning.
Superintendent of Railways Transport L.A.R. Ratnayake stated that the last two carriages of the ‘Yal Devi’ train detached near the Vavuniya railway station and that the train had traveled a short distance before the operators had realized of the incident.
However, the train had returned back and the carriages were reattached before resuming plying the line, he said.
Ratnayake stated that the incident had not caused any injuries to the passengers and that an inquiry has been launched to determine the cause for the sudden detachment of two carriages.
