Nalaka Godahewa postpones FCID visit

December 5, 2015   06:13 pm

Former Chairman of the Securities Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC), Dr Nalaka Godahewa, has requested the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) for a different date to record a statement as he is unable to appear today.

He was summoned to appear at the FCID at 9.00am today, however he had informed that he will be unable to do so due to prior engagements, police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

Therefore he has requested for another date next week, he said.

However, the former SEC chairman has not informed of another date to appear at the FCID.

Dr Nalaka Godahewa was notified to appear at the FCID to record a statement regarding an alleged Rs 5 million grant by the SEC for Tharunyata Hetak, a youth movement headed by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son MP Namal Rajapaksa.

Dr Nalaka Godahewa assumed duties as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission on 29th August 2012. However, he resigned from the position after Maithripala Sirisena’s victory at the presidential poll in January, 2015.

Meanwhile two individuals including a former top SEC official were arrested yesterday over an alleged financial irregularity which had occurred at the SEC in 2013.
