Priyasath Dep takes oath as new Chief Justice

Supreme Court Judge Priyasath Dep took oaths as the new Chief Justice before the President Maithripala Sirisena earlier today (2). 

Mr. Dep will be the 45th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, that has been sworn in. 

Justice Priyasath Dep held the office of the Solicitor General from 2007 to 2011 and became a judge of the Supreme Court in 2011. 

He had fulfilled his duties as the Acting Chief Justice several times.

Minister of Justice, Wijeyadasa Rajapakhse Secretary to the President P. B. Abeykoon, and family members of Justice Priyasad Depp participated in this swearing in ceremony. 

The Presidential media division revealed that the previous Chief Justice, Mr. K. Sripavan had also attended the event.

Sripavan retired from service on February 28.
