Telephone conversation recordings obtained from Perpetual Treasuries Limited have revealed that Arjun Aloysius had received sensitive information from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and other state institutions regarding bond auctions.

The unedited versions of the phone conversations between Aloysius and Perpetual Treasuries CEO Kasun Palisena were played for the Presidential Commission of Inquiry, investigating the controversial treasury bond issuance, during the hearing today (6).

The recordings had revealed that Aloysius had received confidential insider information which he in turn passed on to Palisena with instructions on how to bid based on this information from a certain “powerful friend.”

The Bond Commission had issued notice to Arjun Aloysius to appear before the commission this morning to record a statement, however he had failed to appear today while he also cannot be contacted.

It was also stated that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had visited the residence of Mr Aloysius and that however he was not there either.

The Attorney General’s Department informed the commission that Arjun Aloysius has two passports and requested for their numbers.

The commission informed the attorneys representing him to notify their client and produce his before the commission to testify.

Meanwhile PTL Chief Dealer Nuwan Salgoda, a witness in the case, informed the commission that he fears for the security of his family and himself.

Based on a request made by the AG’s Department, the commission instructed that he be given extra security.
