Arrest warrant issued against Weerakumara Dissanayake

A warrant was issued today (18) for the arrest of UPFA MP Weerakumara Dissanayake for failure to appear before the Colombo magistrate’s Court, over a case filed by Cinnamon Garden Police.

The former deputy minister had been ordered to appear at court this morning for the case which has been filed against 7 individuals including National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa. 

They have been accused of staging unlawful assembly and protesting in a manner that had caused inconvenience to the public, during the visit of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. 

They are also charged with using loudspeakers without a permit and disrupting traffic. 

UPDATE (12.46pm) – The arrest warrant issued against MP Weerakumara Dissanayake has been recalled after he appeared before the court, a short while ago. 

The NFF deputy leader had presented himself before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court after submitting a motion through his attorney. 

Therefore the arrest warrant was recalled by the court, Ada Derana reporter said.
