The current dress code for school teachers will not be changed under any circumstances, Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha says.

He stated this while addressing an event held at a school today.

The education minister’s remarks came days after the chief secretary of Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU), Joseph Stalin directed a letter to the Education Secretary, making a request to include schoolteachers in the circular issued on the dress code of public sector employees.

The government has allowed public sector employees to be clad in appropriate attire when reporting to work, however, schoolteachers have been excluded from this, Stalin pointed out.

He explained that amidst the prevailing economic crisis and soaring prices of goods, some schoolteachers are facing difficulties in purchasing sarees.
