The Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has decided to appoint MP Thilanga Sumathipala as the General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

The decision has been taken during the SLFP Central Committee meeting convened this evening (21) at the party headquarters.

It is reported that the central committee decided to remove Mahinda Amaaraweera from the post of UPFA General-Secretary and unanimously decided to appoint Thilanga Sumathipala to the post.

Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has also decided to vote against the Budget 2023, when the vote on the second reading is taken tomorrow.

The SLFP announced last month that the MPs of the party who have accepted ministerial portfolios in the government have been removed from all their positions in the party.

Accordingly, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Amaraweera, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Jagath Pushpakumara and Chamara Sampath Dassanayake were removed from all positions held by them in the party while they were also stripped of their SLFP central committee membership.
