One dead, another missing after drowning in sea off Kirinda

One girl has died and another went missing after drowning in the sea area off Kirinda Vihara Maha Devi Temple this morning (June 09).

According to the police, three individuals including a young man had been swept away by the sea waves.

The young man and one of the two girls were rescued, however, the girl was pronounced dead while being rushed to the Kirinda Peripheral Hospital.

Meanwhile, a search and rescue operation is underway to locate the other girl who remains missing after being swept away by the sea waves.

The police said the trio was among a group of individuals who were on a trip to Kirinda from Bibila. The two girls were identified as 18-year-olds.
