Shooting at hotel in Haputale leaves one dead, another injured

One person was shot dead and another was wounded this evening (Aug. 22) in Haputale, Ada Derana learns.
The incident has taken place at a restaurant located on Beragala – Halie-Ela road.
The hotel owner, who was injured in the shooting, has been rushed to the Base Hospital in Diyatalawa for medical attention.
The deceased is reportedly a 42-year-old from Dondra, Matara. He had joined the hotel staff in April 2022.
According to Ada Derana correspondent, five people had barged into the hotel and opened fire while the hotel owner and the employee were watching television.
The motive behind the gunfire still remains unclear.
