The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) says it will carry out a technical inspection on the two overhead pedestrian crossing bridges established for the entry into Wellawatta and Bambalapitiya Railway Stations in the Marine Drive today (Oct. 09).

The Director of the Structural Engineering Research & Project Management at the NBRO, Mrs. Dhammika Kahahengoda stated that accordingly, a technical team from their institution was sent for the inspection activities.

Mrs. Kahahengoda emphasized that although they informed the Sri Lanka Railways and also the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) regarding these two overhead crossing bridges which are currently in bad condition, no measures have been taken to ensure the safety of them so far.

“We have also informed that we can provide our technical knowledge to both those institutions if required, in order to resolve the issue”, she claimed.

Furthermore, Kahahengoda expressed that “since the necessary arrangements for that have not been done so far, we hope to send one of our teams today to investigate what actions can be taken for this”.

“In fact, as we have observed that these two overhead crossing bridges are currently very risky, we will have to carry out the required testing.”

“I also hope to make a technical report in this regard”, she added.
