The Ministry of Education has expressed their concerns pertaining to the incidents that took place on 24 October, during the teacher-principal protest in Pelawatte.

Voicing its concerns in relation to the firing of tear gas and water cannons by the police in attempts to disperse the protesting teachers and principals, the Ministry highlighted that the protesters were subjected to such treatment merely because they were trying to seek solutions for the discrepancies and issues in the country’s education sector

Thus the Ministry expressed their regret in this regard, adding that it is unfortunate for such an incident to have occurred at a time where the Education Minister himself has travelled out of Sri Lanka for a conference.
