Major power outages reported countrywide

UPDATE (6:25 PM): Power supply to several areas has been restored following the island-wide outage experienced earlier this evening, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) says.
Efforts are afoot to restore the electricity supply to other affected areas within the next two and a half hours, the state-owned utility assured.
Major power outages are reported across the country this evening (Dec.09) due to a system breakdown, Ada Derana learns.
Attributing the power failure to a breakdown of the Kotmale - Biyagama transmission line, the state-owned utility assured that steps are being taken to restore the power supply as soon as possible.
