The railway operations on the Puttalam Line were disrupted this evening due to a derailment, the Department of Railways said.

An engine of a freight train plying from Colombo to Seeduwa has derailed between the Ja-Ela and Ragama railway stations, according to the department.

As a result, the trains operating on the Puttalam Line are experiencing delays, the railway department said, adding that meanwhile, the evening train operating from Colombo Fort to Puttalam will also be delayed.

The department further mentioned that its workers were dispatched to the site to restore the railway track and that it will take several hours for the train services to be brought back to normal on the Puttalam Line.
