Former President Maithripala Sirisena leaves for US

Former President and SLFP leader Maithripala Sirisena has left for the United States early this morning (12 Feb.).

Accordingly, Sirisena had boarded an Indian Airlines flight bound for New Delhi at around 02:50 a.m. today, Ada Derana learns, after which he is scheduled to leave for the US.

Meanwhile, political sources also claim that new appointments to the board of officials of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will be made following the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) leader’s return to the island.

As such, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna is tipped to be appointed as the new UPFA General Secretary.
