Kalpitiya OIC interdicted over alleged sexual harassment of Woman Constable

The officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Kalpitiya Police Station has been interdicted by the National Police Commission over the alleged incident of sexually harassing a Woman Police Constable (WPC), the Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.

The suspected police OIC had surrendered to the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court through a lawyer in connection with the incident on Tuesday (13), after the Kuliyapitiya SSP had reported facts to the court and initiated an investigation.

Later, the court had ordered the suspect to be released on a surety bail of Rs. 500,000, and ordered him to report to the Office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Kuliyapitiya on every last Sunday of the month.

The case was then ordered to be recalled on March 06, 2024.

On Tuesday, Sri Lanka Police announced that necessary disciplinary action will be taken against the Police OIC in question in addition to the relevant legal action.
