Showers or thundershowers likely in some areas today

Showers or thundershowers are possible in parts of Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Uva provinces in the evening or at night today (Feb.24), the Department of Meteorology says.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in North-central province in the evening or night.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle in the evening or night.

Wind will be variable and wind speed will be 15-25 kmph in the sea areas around the island.

Wind speed may increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Hambantota and from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar.

Sea areas around the island will be Slight.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Hambantota and from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar can be fairly rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
