Maithripala sends letter of demand to Amaraweera, seeks Rs. 1 bn compensation

Former President Maithripala Sirisena has sent a letter of demand to Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, seeking Rs. 1 billion in damages over defamation.

The letter of demand references an alleged statement made by Minister Amaraweera to the media on April 22 and 24 which it claims contains inaccurate and malicious comments regarding former President Sirisena.

Accordingly, the letter of demand seeks Rs. 1,000 million in damages or compensation for defamation. It further states that legal action will be initiated against Minister Amaraweera if Mr. Sirisena is not compensated within 14 days.
