Minister Bandula Gunawardana has said that the government is currently unable to allocate additional financial resources to resolve wage disparities in the public sector through the 2024 Budget.

This announcement was made during a press conference at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC).

Minister Gunawardana noted that a committee has been established, comprising the President’s Secretary and the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, to address issues related to salaries, including discrepancies within government departments, state corporations, and statutory bodies.

He further stated that the Cabinet, led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has decided to propose and implement comprehensive solutions for these salary issues in the 2025 Budget.
