Influenza symptoms on the rise among children, health officials warn

The symptoms of the Influenza viral flu being reported among children in Sri Lanka are on the rise, according to the Paediatrician of Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children Dr. Deepal Perera.

Furthermore, Dr. Perera advised to seek medical advice immediately if such symptoms persist.

Influenza (the flu) is an acute respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses. It is common in all parts of the world. Most people recover without treatment, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

As per the WHO, Influenza spreads easily between people when they cough or sneeze. Symptoms of influenza include acute onset of fever, cough, sore throat, body aches and fatigue.
