The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) has arrested a former member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) who was deported to Sri Lanka from India for further investigations.
The individual was arrested by Indian security authorities in 2015 over his alleged involvement in efforts to reorganise the LTTE. Following a trial in an Indian court, he was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
After completing his prison sentence, arrangements were made to deport him to Sri Lanka. Accordingly, he arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport last night (26).
A team of officers from the Terrorism Investigation Division arrested him upon his arrival.
The suspect is a 50-year-old man who was previously residing in Masiapiddy.
Police have obtained a 72-hour detention order to question the suspect further regarding information provided by intelligence agencies.
The TID is conducting further investigations into the matter.
