The Colombo High Court has fixed November 13 for the next hearing of a corruption case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) against former Minister Piyankara Jayaratne.

Jayaratne, who is currently serving a prison sentence in connection with a separate corruption conviction, was produced before the court by prison officials when the case was taken up today (02), Ada Derana reporter said.

The case was heard before Colombo High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela.

During today's proceedings, evidence was recorded from an investigating officer under the questioning of a representative of the Bribery Commission. Subsequently, President's Counsel Shavindra Fernando, appearing on behalf of the accused, conducted the cross-examination.

Following the proceedings, the court postponed the further hearing of evidence until November 13.

The case has been filed on allegations that Jayaratne, while serving as Minister of Civil Aviation, unlawfully arranged the printing of 3,000 Vesak greeting cards between May 10 and June 6, 2013, causing a financial loss of Rs. 128,520 to the government.

The Bribery Commission has charged the former minister with the offence of corruption in connection with the alleged incident.
