Officers of the Police Special Task Force (STF) have arrested a close associate of 'Subha', a woman allegedly overseeing the local drug network of organized criminal and major drug trafficker 'Dubai Dhanushka', who is currently overseas.
Officers also had seized around 1 kilogram and 30 grams of 'Ice' (crystal methamphetamine) found in the suspect's possession.
The raid was carried out in front of a house on Pansal Hena Road, within the Wellampitiya Police Division, yesterday (02), based on information received by STF officers.
The arrested suspect is a 40-year-old resident of the Pansal Hena Road area in Wellampitiya, police said.
Further questioning has revealed that the suspect was the principal agent responsible for storing and distributing drug consignments belonging to 'Subha', a woman who allegedly manages the drug distribution network within Sri Lanka from Dubai.
Further investigations have revealed that 'Dubai Dhanushka' allegedly arranges for the covert transportation of narcotics from overseas to Sri Lanka, while 'Subha' is responsible for overseeing their distribution within the country.
The suspect and the seized drugs have been handed over to the Wellampitiya Police for further investigations.
