The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) is set to host its inaugural Board Leader Ready Symposium on Saturday (07) in Colombo, bringing together leading professionals from the legal, corporate, financial and governance sectors.

The full-day symposium aims to prepare current and aspiring directors for the challenges and responsibilities of corporate board leadership.

The programme will focus on strengthening participants’ understanding of corporate governance, legal obligations, financial oversight and the strategic role of directors in promoting sustainable organisational growth.

The keynote address will be delivered by Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka Chairman, Senior Professor D.B.P.H. Dissabandara.

The symposium will also feature four thematic sessions conducted by distinguished professionals representing the legal, regulatory, financial and corporate sectors.

BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya said the initiative provides an opportunity for professionals, particularly those in the legal field, to explore career opportunities beyond traditional courtroom practice and contribute to corporate strategy and decision-making.
He also emphasised the importance of encouraging young professionals and more women to pursue boardroom leadership positions, helping build a new generation of capable, diverse and responsible corporate leaders.

The symposium is designed for existing board members, senior corporate executives and professionals aspiring to serve on corporate boards.

Organisers note that effective board leadership requires more than professional experience, highlighting the importance of strategic thinking, independent judgement and the ability to provide effective oversight of management.

The event will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on November 7, 2026 in Colombo.
