Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts, Duty Meteorologist Udeni Weerasinghe said.
Showers are also possible during the morning hours. The public has been advised to take necessary precautions against lightning, as temporary strong winds may occur during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas around the island today.
Wind speeds are generally expected to range between 20 and 30 kmph. However, temporarily strong winds reaching speeds of 60–70 kmph may occur in these sea areas during thundershowers, she further stated.
