The Moragahakanda project, the biggest multi-functional irrigation project, was first initiated through the Mahinda Chinthana program during my time, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says.

The observation was made while speaking to reporters in Colombo this afternoon (26).

“Despite my government fought a war, we allocated money for the project through the budget,” Rajapaksa said.

He also added however President Maithripala Sirisena as a Minister that time had a “great interest” for the project.

The President enshrined treasures at the Moragahakanda Reservoir Project on Monday (25). The construction work on the project is expected to be completed by 2016. While the project is completely handled by local engineers, the financial assistance is being provided through the Government.
