Maj-Gen Mahesh Senanayake appointed as Army Commander

Major General Mahesh Senanayake has been appointed as the new Army Commander, President’s Media Division announced.

The decision was made following the appointment of former Army Commander, General Crishanthe de Silva, as the new Chief of Defense Staff.

Major General Mahesh Senanayake was first promoted to Lieutenant General and subsequently appointed as the new Army Commander today (04).

Major General Mahesh Senanayake served in the capacity of the Army Chief of Staff.

Prior to his appointment as the Army Chief of Staff on March 22, 2017, he served as Commander of the Jaffna Security Force Headquarters.

He joined the Sri Lankan Army in the year 1981, after receiving his education at Ananda College.
