Muhunthan Canagey resigns as CEO of ICTA

Muhunthan Canagey has resigned from his positions as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA).
His resignation comes in the wake of allegations pertaining to the proposed national payments platform and other issues.
In a letter to the Chairperson, Members of the Board and Senior Management of the ICTA, Mr Canagey stated that he was asked to resign by President Maithripala Sirisena which was communicated to him by Minister Harin Fernando.
“I will never be part of aiding and abetting any fraud or corruption or delay in any implementation of Digitization in Sri Lanka,” he said.
Mr Canagey stated that he has been raised from a child to speak his mind, boldly, fearlessly and honestly which are the very basic principles he lives by and the rights that should prevail to him and any other human being. “I am not willing to let go of that just because l need to protect my job at ICTA.”
“Under this circumstance it is regrettable that I am tendering my resignation and start commencing my handing over of my duties,” he said.
