Nine persons among the 24 suspects arrested over the Easter Day attacks have been remanded until 6th of May under the orders of the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

The suspects were produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Channa Saliya Abeyratne today (22).

Reportedly, the suspects included seven Muslims, one Sinhalese and one Tamil.

Wellampitiya Police, presenting its report in the investigations, told the court that a factory belonging to the suicide bomber who attacked the Shangri-La hotel in Colombo and the two women who died in the suicide bomb explosion at Dematagoda was found in Wellampitiya area.

The police further said that the suspects have been employed at the said factory and that probes are being conducted to uncover if the suspects are acquainted with the suicide bombers.

The police said the suspects were arrested as a result of the investigation carried out with the Criminal Investigation Department and the Terrorist Investigation Division.

The police sought the court to remand the suspects and to issue an order to call for a report on the telephone calls made by the suspects.

The two women who died in the explosion at Dematagoda are revealed to be the wife and the sister of the suicide bomber at the Shangri-La hotel, the police further told the court.

Considering the submissions, the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered to remand the suspects until 6th of May.
