Rajitha and Fonseka on how they received information on coronavirus cases

Former parliamentarians Rajitha Senaratne and Sarath Fonseka have said that the statements they had made with regard to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country were received from unofficial sources.

The duo stated this calling a media briefing in Colombo today (20).

Commenting on the probes that are to be launched into the statements made by them, Senaratne called on the National Police Commission to follow the example set by Election Commission on how independent commissions should function.

Fonseka, who also addressed the press conference, stated that they are also common citizens of the country and that they do not have contacts with official sources in this regard. He added that one has to rely on what is circulating in social media in order to receive information.

Senaratne, responding to a question regarding his statement on 10 school students being infected with the coronavirus, stated he was informed of this by several parents of students in the relevant school.

He also noted that they give out some information for the public to look into them, while emphasizing that this is nothing to panic about.
