SLFP to meet President Ranil for talks on forming all-party govt

Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will meet President Ranil Wickremesinghe today (July 28) to discuss the forming of an all-party government, party’s chairman Maithripala Sirisena says.

Calling a press briefing at the party headquarters this morning (July 28), the former President stated that the parliamentary group of Sri Lanka Freedom Party voted against the proclamation of the state of emergency.

Explaining the reason for the party’s decision, he said that the direction of the new government is still unclear, with fuel queues getting longer day by day and people continuing to be afflicted by shortages of food and medicines.

After the incumbent President took office, the previous Cabinet of Ministers was re-appointed and there is no sign of the all-party government that was expected to be formed, he complained.

Accordingly, the SLFP is scheduled to meet President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Finance Ministry at 12 noon today, for talks on the proposals for establishing an all-party government.
