The body of a man was found buried in the Divithuruwatte area in Elpitiya last evening (07 April).

Accordingly, Police found the body of a male buried in the Embilikanda area in Divithuruwatte, Elpitiya.

The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Chandrakumar Sarathkumara, a resident of the Athkandura area in Elpitiya.

He had been reported missing for two days, and was last seen leaving the house with a group of friends, Police said.

They added that a complaint had been lodged at the police station in this regard by the deceased’s relatives, on account of the fact that he had not returned home for two days.

Police revealed that the motorcycle owned by the deceased was found at the residence of an individual believed to be a close friend of Sarathkumara, adding that the said person’s wallet was also found near the pit in which the deceased’s body had been buried.

Thus, they suspect that the murder too, was committed by the individual identified as Sarathkumara’s close friend, a 40-year-old area resident.

Further investigations into both, the murder and the arrest of the suspect, who is currently in hiding, are being carried out by the Elpitiya Police.
