Sri Lanka expects a surge in Polish visitors to Sri Lanka during the upcoming winter-spring seasons due to an increase in direct flights between the cities of the two countries, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.

According to the ministry, Poland-based Enter Air began its flights to Sri Lanka in November 2023.

Ukrainian charter and low-cost airline, SkyUp Airlines, will commence its first direct flight from Warsaw to Sri Lanka’s Mattala airport on Dec. 18, and for the first time, its second and third inaugural flights from southern Polish cities of Katowice and Rzeszów on Dec. 22 and Dec. 25, respectively, and continue until April 16, 2024, the ministry said.

Sri Lanka’s standing in Poland, as an attractive destination in Asia, has substantially increased in recent years with the South Asian country being among the top 10 tourism source countries for Polish people, according to the ministry.

Poland has also been identified by Sri Lanka’s tourism authority as a new tourism-generating country in Central Europe.
